about

And so the Krunkelstiltskin story continues: When we last left off the band was throwing house parties at an urban art space, since then it's been an epic couple of years of relocations, children, careers and yes, shows (when we can..) culminating in this latest slice of rock goofery. Recorded in Bion's secret subterranean laboratory we bring you 10 new tracks of our patented "electrogrind" (basically a rock act with no guitars) but now incorporating some new influences from the bands recent experiences. Mike was operating a sound -light system for dance festivals and brought back some techno and industrial beats. Bion's constant collecting/tinkering/researching brought in the oddball instrument and sound, like the weird little box everyone sang through. Chris and Rich were busy raising young children and and the resulting vibe became lighter and more playful- Gone were songs about tyrants and eating pig anus replaced by gentle musings on life and being lactose intolerant. But before you think the mighty genre crushing Krunk is cheesing out there is still plenty of the usual synth weirdness and pounding bass/drums grooves here as well. There's even a grind core Ministry tribute! Sure to equally delight and infuriate fans of all sorts of musics- Munch on these yummy musical doodles!
2 Chord Intro- Chris begins by explaining the Krunkelstiltskin song writing method. The synth melody is ripped off from some old R&B jam. Rap remix coming soon.
Manicotti- Rich weighs in with reflections on being cheese/pasta intolerant in a world that does not care. Classic Nu-Wave from the state that brought you The Cars.
Welcome To Hell Part 1- A spontaneous jam we went into after Mike ran lights for Paul Barker (Ministry). Apparently Hell is being trapped in a supermarket on the holidays.
Whirlpool- This was a beat Mike kept playing at every rehearsal until we finally wrote a song around it. The lyrics came from a joke we had about writing a musical based on "Everybody Poops"
Don’t Know Why- A little song idea that kept one day grew up into this art-rock mini epic. See above lyrically, with Chris adding some thoughts of his own on the subject.
The Air Variations- Playas doing their thang, recorded completely live. The title comes from endless attempts to learn some songs by the band Air.
Dawn, Majestic- Bion waxing poetic on having to walk his dog in the early morning. Chris bursts out with some spontaneous (and appropriate) yodeling.
Looking At You- Chris sang this cryptic phrase, and Bion mutated it with a Yamaha VSS sampler. The result is a bit of classic 90's stylee electronica. Is it about total surveillance or divine intervention? You be the judge.
Welcome To Hell Part 2- As an add-on to part 1- Apparently Hell is being trapped WITH A TEENAGE GIRL in a supermarket on the holidays. In a true testament to his vocal abilities, Chris sang the parts of Satan and the teenage girl in one uninterrupted take!
Escape From Ice Mountain- Rehearsals leading up to these recordings temporarily took place at a friends house on the top of mountain, up a 1/4 mile driveway of solid ice perched on the edge of a cliff. This made every rehearsal a Tolkien-esque struggle for survival! This is a tribute to the bands dedication and grit to getting through this and every other hardship to get this far.
