In 2016 Krunkelstiltskin took up residency in a converted mill in Holyoke Massachusetts. Surrounded by urban squalor and competing with the skate punks upstairs the music took on a much heavier tone. Lighthearted subjects included the deaths of rock stars, the corruption of power, and the illusion of wealth (with nods to The Beatles, King Ubu, and Frank Baum). Even the sound became darker with Bion and Chris forgoing lighter tones for chaotic synths and walls of grunge and the Mike/ Rich rhythm section pounding away to new heights of storm. In all the perfect musical summary of what has been called by some one of the worst years ever.
